DESTINATION
Mexico

Mexico’s high volcanic plateau rises dramatically above the surrounding landscape, crowned by two of the country’s most iconic peaks—Pico de Orizaba and Iztaccíhuatl. From the glacier-clad summit of Orizaba, North America’s highest volcano, to the sprawling ridgelines and storied silhouette of “Ixta,” these mountains offer a striking blend of alpine terrain, volcanic geology, and deep cultural history. Snow-capped summits tower above pine forests and high-altitude grasslands, creating a setting that feels both remote and remarkably accessible.
For climbers, this region provides an exceptional high-altitude experience—combining glaciated ascents, sweeping views across central Mexico, and the opportunity to climb two classic peaks in a single itinerary. Clear nights, expansive horizons, and the sense of standing above an ancient volcanic landscape make the climbs a rewarding objective for those seeking both challenge and immersion in one of North America’s most compelling mountain environments.
